Having suffered through some horrible football on Sunday, I decided that I’d had enough and took to the desert for an early afternoon hike. With summer slowly fading into the rear view mirror, and the thermometer reading in the low 90’s (for Phoenix, that’s not something we think of as very hot), I put my hiking shoes on and headed out toward Gavilan Peak.
Well, it might have been the rocks holding in the heat or sun directly overhead, but it was a hot 92. “But it’s a dry heat”, you say – that is only what we tell the tourists!
Even hot and dry, the desert has a certain beauty – a little more brown, than green. Just bring more water than you think you need and a hat.
