Sundays are for Saguaros (and apparently owls)

Desert Vista Trail Phoenix Arizona Hiking Rusty Ward

Let’s start with one of the coolest things I’ve seen hiking in Arizona.  I’ve passed by this nest a hundred times and always wondered “what lives there”?  Well, I found out.  It’s an owl.  A great horned owl, to be more precise.  And the momma owl was busy nesting, peeking a bit with one eye to make sure I wasn’t a threat.  I’m hoping that I will get a chance to see the chicks in the coming weeks.

I do my best to be out in the desert on the weekends.  This past weekend was no exception.   One of the things that I never get enough of are saguaros.

There is nothing more iconic in the desert.  And I marvel at the infinite shapes.

There are other things to see.

And it helps when a balloon or two swing by.
