The jackrabbit is my favorite desert dweller. I had a great encounter with one today. Nearly 15 minutes of just hanging out with each other and taking some photos.

He spotted me right away, but I was very casual on the trail.

I first acted like I didn’t see him. I didn’t make eye contact or point my camera towards him – this almost always seem to spook them. And when that happens, they will quickly be out of sight. I enjoy watching them run, but makes getting a good photo at that point is a big challenge.

And of course, it had to come to an end when a mountain biker stopped to see what I was taking a picture of.
And I’m always searching…
